What?
SME subsidy for trademark or design registrations.
Why?
To encourage SMEs in the EU to secure their trademark, design and patent rights. See EUIPO about SME.
How much?
A € 700 subsidy in the form of a limited-validity voucher, which can be used to obtain a 75% refund of the official fees charged by the trademark offices. It is not clear how much budget is available for the subsidy, but in previous years it was approximately € 20 million.
When?
From 2 February, the EU’s SME fund will be available again until the budget is finished.
What does Rise do?

Required information
- A power of attorney in the name of the applicant (a company) of the trademark
- A VAT number in the name of the applicant
- A bank statement, with BIC number, in the name of the applicant
How does it work?
- We submit the application for the SME subsidy to the EUIPO on your behalf.
- If the subsidy is granted, we will receive a grant decision with a voucher.
- Once the subsidy has been granted, the trademark or design application can be submitted within one month (extendable to two months).
- Once the costs have been paid, we will submit the request for payment of the subsidy.
- Payment will be made directly to the applicant.
In previous years, the budget was exhausted after a few months. So don’t wait too long to apply for the grant! Rise will help you submit your grant application free of charge.
Costs for trademark and design registration
The SME fund can only be used to compensate 75% of the official fees.
For one class the official fees are:
- EU: € 850
- Benelux: € 244
- WIPO (International): starting at € 750 (Benelux basis) or € 950 (EU basis) plus at least € 100 per country.
